What makes the Philipburn so inviting?

The Philipburn is undoubtedly one of Selkirk’s best kept secrets! The new owers, Adrian and Graham, arrived in August. The hotel has been opened up to the local populace in a way that it has not seen for decades! People are coming in saying they did not even realise it was there.

So what has changed? The new “mein hosts” are gregarious people who enjoy receiving guests and providing a pleasurable service. And what a service! You can already see from posts on Tripadvisor that they leave no stone unturned to try and please their guests.

Bar and restaurant

The bar, known as Bar 1751, is now much better stocked with a new range of draught beers and cider. The wine list is growing and, of course, there is a significant selection of malt whiskies.

When you arrive you can expect to be greeted with a smile – how often do you see that these days? The new bar menu is proving very popular and food and drink is available at realistic prices. Moreover the bar is now open for food and drink for lunch as well as evening meal. It’s good to book but do not be afraid to just turn up and walk in. The Italian chef takes a huge pride in his food and everything is prepared fresh. The dining room is known as The Three Cairns Restaurant and its strap line is “Fresh food not fast food”.

Weddings and functions

The hotel is just perfect for weddings too, from the smallest elopement to grand affairs with 100 to 200 guests. They are usually followed by a super disco party in the evening. If the weather is nice holding the reception in the beautifully manicured gardens is a delight. Even when it rains, the venue still remains magical and no wedding has been spoiled by adverse weather – yet! The range of wedding packages means that every couple can decide exactly what they want for their wedding and choose their own bespoke day. Our experienced staff help bring a real empathy to the proceedings. With the larger packages, wedding guests can get up to 25% discount off the bedrooms. Any function will fit here – birthdays, anniversaries, business conferences etc.

Accommodation

The hotel sports 20 bedrooms of different categories. Every room is different and unique, from standard doubles to family and pet friendly rooms. The rooms are of a decent size and the whole hotel is in excellent condition – no tired old carpets and flaking paint here.

Even the internet has been upgraded. The hotel now has its own 1000 mbps circuit so streaming of videos is no longer a problem. Every bedroom can stream at the same time without degradation.

Taxi service

Another unique feature is the hotel’s in-house registered taxi service. This gives priority to hotel guests and is jolly useful if you want to come to the pub and not have to drive home. The service is available also to the wider public of the local area but advance booking is essential to ensure staff availability. All Seasons Cars, as it is known, quotes for its journeys in advance so there is no argument over the price; you take it or leave it before booking.

So yes, what an adaptable hotel. Come and experience the welcome just once and you will want to come again and again! With the variety of services provided there is no doubt that this hotel lives up to its name Hotel for all Seasons.
